Ports on the Control / Expansion Hubs

Ports on the Control / Expansion Hubs

On the REV Hubs, there are a bunch of ports for plugging in your Motors, Servos, Sensors, and other things.Port diagram‌

Motor Ports

As you can see in this diagram the Motor ports are on the left side of your control hub or expansion hub, the motors are plugged into the bigger ports‌

Encoder Ports

For each motor port on your Control Hub/Expansion Hub, you will have an Encoder Port these ports are used to get information from your motor about its current rotation etc.‌

Servo Ports

As you can see in this diagram the Servo ports are on the bottom‌

[need info: 2x +5V POWER ports]‌

RS485 Ports and battery ports

You can use the battery ports to power your Control hub/Expansion Hub‌

You can also use the 2nd battery port to plug in an additional expansion hub so you can expand the number of ports you have if do this you will have to also connect the RS485 ports together so the hubs can communicate.‌

5V POWER ports

These ports can be used to power auxiliary devices‌

Sensors

There are several different types of sensors including Digital sensors, Analog sensors, and i2c Sensors. Each of these ports is at the bottom of your Hub and each port is marked for which type of sensors are to be plugged into it.‌

Digital Sensors

Digital Sensors send an ON or OFF value a good example is the REV Touch Sensor which is a button that sends ON when pressed and OFF when not.

Analog Sensors

Analog sensors can send a range of Voltage other than ON or OFF, a good example is the REV potentiometer which sends a variable voltage depending on the rotation of a shaft.REV Potentiometer‌

i2c Sensors

i2c Sensors are similar to Digital sensors in the way they send data but instead, it uses the ON's and OFF's as binary data that can store a lot of useful data, a good example is the REV Color Sensor V3, in this case, it gets the brightness information and RGB(Red, Green, Blue) Color Information.
